Every year, students in second grade participate in the Massachusetts Marine Educators Stellwagen Bank Art Contest. Students use TuxPaint to create original artwork based on the contest's theme. This year's theme is: Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The pieces are entered in the Computer Graphics Division. Enjoy the students work below! Over several sessions in the computer lab, students will develop an original creation by "snapping" blocks (scripts) together within the program. Once completed, student work will be uploaded the the Scratch website for the world to see! To learn more about Scratch or to download the free program for at home use, just click on the picture at left! Every year, I look forward to having the second grade students participate in the Holiday Card Exchange project hosted by Jen Wagner (projectsbyjen.com) and this year didn't disappoint! Through the collaborative efforts of the 2nd grade teachers and myself, five classes mailed out holiday cards with a "snow globe" theme to classes from around the world. Each student was able to take home one of the cards his/her class received. Here's a peek into our finished display of the cards we received:
